Chances are if you’re a beauty lover or know someone who is, you’ll be well aware that Glossier is now available in the UK!! It launched in the UK on Monday 9 October and I have to admit I couldn’t wait for that Monday to roll round (something I never say!). I had my basket of Glossier goodies ready and waiting to be shipped before I even got myself out of bed that morning!Glossier was created by Emily Weiss founder and CEO of Into The Gloss. Glossier is all about glowing, dewy skin. The skincare products are designed to ‘instantly optimise the skin’s tone, texture, and hydration levels so that it’s already at its best before you even think about makeup.’ With the makeup Glossier say that they’re ‘not out to make you into someone else or complicate your routine. We just want to bring you the best makeup products—the ones you’ll reach for every day.‘
Before I share my top picks with you, I just wanted to point out some amazing things about this launch. Firstly although you’re ordering through the American company there appears to be a UK distribution warehouse so that in itself means two awesome things: no US customs and shipping charges and the order is with you in a matter of days not weeks! Yay! Shipping is £4 for standard delivery, £6 for express delivery or free if you spend more than £25 which I found was pretty easy….oops! Secondly the prices are pretty much on par with the US prices so $25 for the Cloud Paint duo is £25, so although a little more in pounds than dollars when you convert it, no massive price increases which can sometimes happen with a transatlantic brand launch. Thirdly when placing your first order, you get a 10% discount code at the checkout which you can share with friends. Scroll to the bottom to find mine if you fancy getting yourself a discount.
Onto my top picks and how I’ve found them. The product I was desperate to get my hands on were the Glossier Cloud Paints as Instagram and trusted bloggers had me got me curious and excited about these. I’ve previously had hit and miss results with cream blush, I seemed to go from ‘can’t see it on my skin’ to looking like a clown in about 10 seconds but I had high hopes for the Cloud Paints and they have not disappointed. I found it hard to narrow down the shade choices so I opted to get a duo and I loved that I could choose the shades which make up the duo, they weren’t pre-selected. A small thing but it makes a huge difference as you can tailor it to your skin tone more and get get two shades which you love as opposed to one you love and one you shove to the back of the drawer. The Cloud Paints look like little tubs of paint which is super cute. I find that you just need a little drop of the cream blush to achieve the desired look and of course you can layer it up depending on the look you want to achieve. Another thing I love is that the Glossier site shows the products watched on three different skin tones so you get a good idea of how the shade will look on, which is great considering the only Glossier store is in Manhattan so not easy to swatch in person. I’m wearing Beam in the photo below and I love it!!! I love the instant glow and the healthy complexion it gives me, definitely a keeper that one. I love Puff too, it gives a very cute pink cheeked rosy look. The staying power is amazing, I find the formula lasts all day and even survives the gym.
I have been absolutely loving the Generation G matte lipstick in Crush which is a hot raspberry pink. It became an instant hit for me and I’ve been wearing it everyday, it’s that good. I’ve had quite a few compliments on the shade. It’s a sheer matte formula so it’s great for adding colour when you want to but you’re not after a statement lip. Th shade just lifts my complexion even I’m tired from a night of diabetic hypos and feel like the poop emoji (keeping it real). Glossier call Generation G ‘a new kind of lip color that gives the look and finish of just-blotted lipstick, without the blot.‘
Glossier Boy Brow is their all-in-one brow fluffer, filler, and shaper. Everyone always raves about this on Instagram and the internet, so I picked this up to see quite honestly what the fuss was about. I was quite dubious to be honest. I’ve used brow gels before and just never got on with them. I found they would leave me with crispy eyebrows that looked somewhat evil and well that’s just not a good everyday look for me outside of Halloween. Glossier has proved my dubious self wrong though and I can see what the fuss has been about. Boy Brow tames my eyebrows and fills in the gaps at the same time. My brows stay in place even through the London Underground wind tunnel effect and most importantly no crispy eyebrows in sight and I don’t look like an evil baddie/super villain. Result!
As you can see, I went mainly for make-up for my first Glossier order. However I did pick up the Priming Moisturiser as I was keen to try this especially for days where I need hydration but fancy a lighter formula. This is lovely on the skin. It gives a healthy glow and leaves my skin feeling loved and happy. I’ve been running around with just this on skin which feels amazing. The cream visibly plumps skin up with moisture to give an even texture, which helps minimize the appearance of pores. There’s also an anti-redness complex which soothes and evens skin tone, leaving a clean, dewy, balanced finish.
My friend Heather runs a lifestyle meets design blog over at Digital Fluidity. Heather like me, was excited about the Glossier UK launch too! We’d been discussing what we were going to go for and both of us were eagerly awaiting the UK release date. We opted for different products, Heather has gone for more of a skin care focus picking up the Milk Jelly Cleanser, the Body Hero Daily Oil Wash and the Stretch Concealer. I’m always on the look out for the right concealer so I’m very curious as to how Heather has been finding the Stretch Concealer. You can show Heather some love and read all about how she’s been getting on with her haul here. Everyone has been raving about Glossier packaging and I can see why. There’s the use of Millennial Pink for one, always a popular choice. I like how the products are a little different but are balanced with a simple design. I love the aesthetic and it all fits easily into my everyday make up bag. All the products come in a bubble wrap zip lock bag which is oh so handy especially when travelling or heading to the gym and has become a hit in itself.
On the whole I’ve been super impressed with Glossier. It hasn’t disappointed, it has lived up to the hype and it has been a bit of fresh air to the make up industry and my make up collection. A move away from the matte polished and heavy look to a more of a you be you philosophy which I value. I also love how the faces of the brand show diversity through skin tone, race and body types.
